Cantors The cantor leads the congregation in the hymns and chants of the Mass. The cantor also proclaims the psalm. Cantors must work with the Director of Music to learn the music for each Mass. A cantor typically sings one Mass per month. Choir The choir is a group of adult and high school parishioners who learn music to support the worship of the congregation at Mass. The choir sings regularly at Mass throughout the calendar year and more frequently during the Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter season, practicing weekly in the church. New members are always welcome.
Funeral Choir The funeral choir is an on-call group of volunteers who sing hymns to lead the congregation at funeral Masses. No previous choir experience is required. All are welcome to join.
Instrumentalists Parishioners with the gift of playing a musical instrument can be a wonderful addition to our worship at Mass. Organ is the principal instrument of workshop and we are looking for parishioners with either organ skills or strong piano skills who might consider making a transition to organ. Complementary instrumentation, including piano, brass, strings or woodwinds can be a lovely enhancement to the music at Mass, especially on Feast Days, Holy Days and at other special liturgies such as Confirmation.
Saint Cecilia Society (Children's Choir) The SCS at St. Bernadette (only) includes the parish youth choir and handbell ensemble. It is open to all young parishioners in grades 2-8 from any school setting. This group provides young members of the parish with an opportunity to develop vocal and instrumental music skills and deepen their understanding of the music of the Mass. The SCS practices from October through April on Sunday evenings. They sing at Mass 5-6 times a year, including Christmas Eve and Easter.
